Assisting the Cause

Attention Commanders, Command Sergeant Majors, or anyone issuing a Challenge Coin

While I can only do so much, I recognize that the path to success against fraudulent purveyors of challenge coins while protecting a unit’s heritage can also come from the greater military community.

If you would like to have your unit’s challenge coin posted in The Commanders Challenge please contact me at milspecia@gmail.com so we can discuss your coin, its unit, and what it means to you. Please try to include as much information that you can remember.

If you would like to donate your coin to this site and improve the on-line gallery for the community, please contact me with your name, rank, and unit so that this information will be included with photos, interview (via e-mail or voice whichever you prefer), and research for the web log. This way you will be given proper credit for your contribution to history.

Or…

Admittedly, I have a full-time job that I need to pay the bills. So all the research and fact-checking on these articles comes on my own time. If you should feel that I’ve done a good job in representing the units, soldiers, and their challenge coins and would like to express your approval in a gratuity – it would be very much appreciated and you can do so using this secure PayPal method.

  1. Thanks for establishing a unique website dedicated to the lineage and tradition of military challenge coins. Your efforts truly honor the men and women in uniform who earn them.

  2. Thank you developing this excellent blog on challenge coins. I am an advocate for geography education and have connected with many senior DoD leaders (both active and retired) around my work. Through these connections, I started collecting challenge coins and have built up a nice collection. I would be happy to share photos with you for your research and for this site. Please let me know if you would be interested.

  3. Excellent site.

As a manufacturer this has been a particular concern of ours for a long time. We are bombarded with requests for “samples” clearly from collectors or those who wish to sell them. We do not do that of course.

I will keep a close eye on ebay and other sites and let you know when I spot a fake. I wrote an article about them here: http://militaryspecialties.com/challenge-coin-collecting/ and in some of the other blog entries.

    1. Thanks for your feedback Rick. That’s a good article and you pose a topic that goes directly to what I’m working on.

The valuable point with challenge coins is there are minters that do right, and minters that do wrong. I’ve talked to more than a few Commanders and NCOs who thought they were making something unique for their troops only to find it splashed all over eBay or in online stores for a cheap $20. Really upsetting to them to say the least. That goes right to the heart of why I am documenting these, so the military community can protect these distinctive awards and honor those who earn them.

      Thanks for visiting my site.

  4. Your site is a great resource and does an excellent job keeping the focus on the real significance of challenge coins. Keep up the great work! Semper Fidelis! Ed

    1. Thanks for visiting my site and commenting Ed. Be sure to keep an eye on the Commander’s Challenge Facebook and Twitter feeds for challenge coin related news and articles. Hopefully I can soon bring in other USMC and Navy coins as well!

    1. Fair enough. I am currently rotating back from Afghanistan so give me a week to get everything on the Homefront settled. I had to pause the articles while I was away. Thank you for your patience.
